A Broom? Seriously?

So Hurricane Ike made its way through the Lone Star State this weekend, and once again the weather men exaggerated the wrath that Mr. Ike would bring on College Station. I hesitate to say that it was a disappointment because it did ravage part of the coast and some people did lose their lives. Now that you have been Debbie Downed, I would like to enlighten you on the events of this weekend.

Thursday:
While sitting in class, I received 5 text messages that informed me that the gracious Dr. Murano had cancelled school on Friday. After getting slightly giddy, I realized that I still had to go to work. Awesome. It went by quickly and I promptly went home and did absolutely nothing for the rest of the afternoon. That night I caught up on this season of ANTM (there's a tranny and a bisexual on the show!!!! :(... sick) Tyson and Wes came over for a little bit and we discussed the pros and cons of Living Hope and First Baptist Bryan. This conversation, however, was interrupted when Tyson got a call that his small group partner was at his house ready for their meeting that he forgot about. We rushed over to save Rachel... Save? Yes, the only people at Ty's house were Mr., Mrs., and Jeff Pickering. Not at all a knock on the Pick's, simply saying that its magnificently awkward to sit and talk to someone that you don't even know's parents.... in what is technically their house. Anywho, me and Ty went back to my house to wait for everyone to get there so we could go to the zip line. After a long drive out there, there was a creepy van and not enough water to actually do any fun activities, so we left. I then went and hung out with Jordan in the hot tub at the Hilton and various other places around town until 4:30 a.m.

Friday:
I slept late... too late. First activity of the day, lunch with Chad, Lauren and Bethany. Me and Chad then proceeded to Living Hope to get it ready for all of the evacuees that would be coming this weekend. I found out that my shift would be from 1 to 5 a.m. so I went home to get everything put up from outside and to get some rest for my early morning service adventure. After taking my truck out to mom's, a short nap, hanging out with Anna, Wes, Chad and Daniel, me and the Madisonville boys made our way over to church for our shift. There were 9 evacuees, and they were all asleep. Our 4 hours consisted of throwing the football around in the parking lot, making up random lyrics with some guy playing the guitar, taking out trash and sitting around drinking coffee. We made our way home and got a good mornings rest.

Saturday:
After waking up at 11:30, OUR POWER WENT OUT!!! Don't worry, it was only for about 40 minutes, but we were seriously excited. We cooked breakfast on our gas stove, and wouldn't you know it, as soon as we were ready to eat, the power came back on. We decided to go to Wolf Pen Creek and slide down the hill at the amphitheatre, followed by some sweet pond hopping. After hopping in our last pond, we decided to cut the quad and the band practice field. Apparently band members don't like it when we walk on the field that our tuition and fees pays for. Every one of the freshmen ran from their dorm all the way around the field and into the parking garage where we were walking. Equipped with brooms, sticks and foul mouths they finally caught up to us. Seriously, was the broom really necessary? I think not. After several expletive laced confrontations we assured them that we got the point, we aren't supposed to walk on "your" field, and you're a douche bag. Honestly, that was my favorite part of the day. It makes me smile every time one of those guys acts like he is the coolest thing since sliced bread... I guess they don't know any better. I know some amazing, amazing men in the corps, unfortunately they are the exceptions.
